Criminal procedure fix-it bill passes final hurdle

7:02 pm on 30 May 2013

Legislation ensuring the Government's criminal procedure reforms are introduced in July this year without a hitch passed its third and final reading in Parliament on Thursday.

A number of technical issues were identified in the legislation which makes sweeping changes to the way courts operate.

The bill clarifies and gives full effect to that legislation.

From 1 July, court processes will be simplified to cut the length of cases and reduce the number that require a jury trial.
