A Japanese tourist whose rental car collided with a truck and trailer near Christchurch Airport remains in a critical condition in Christchurch Hospital this evening.
Diversions were in place for three hours after the crash just before noon today, while members of Canterbury Police Serious Crash Unit conducted a scene examination.
Witnesses have told the police a silver Suzuki Swift rental car was turning right onto McLeans Island Road when it collided with a truck and trailer travelling south.
The truck driver was not injured.
A police spokesperson said the investigation was continuing.
