Campaign to protect bees

9:00 am on 22 August 2012

National Bee Week begins on Monday, with the Beekeepers Association launching a campaign called Love Our Kiwi Bees.

President Barry Foster says the campaign is aimed at protecting bees, especially in urban areas.

He says bees are very important and not just for beekeepers, because they are a vital part of the natural world in terms of pollinating plants.

Mr Foster says the association will lobby the media and politicians and visit schools to talk to children about bees and pollination.

There will also be displays about bees in some malls throughout the country.
