Swedish investors acquire Waikato dairy farms

Swedish investors are the latest to make a move on New Zealand dairy farms.

The Overseas Investment Office has approved an application from Southern Pastures Partnership to buy up to eight Waikato dairy farms, totalling more than 3000 hectares.

The company has 99% Swedish ownership and 1% New Zealand.

It has bought the farms from the Graeme Hart companies, Carter Holt Harvey HBU and Rank Group Property Investments.

The new owners say they plan to increase production and spend money on developing the farms.

German pension funds have been the biggest European investors in New Zealand farms in recent years, mainly in Southland.
