Rural shock at ACC levies

7:34 am on 15 October 2009

Federated Farmers says the level at which ACC levy payments are set to rise is a real shock.

The Government is bringing in legislation that will reduce levy increases proposed by the Accident Compensation Corporation.

But under changes announced by ACC Minister Nick Smith, cover for work related injuries may still rise by an average of 16 cents per $100 of earnings, to $1.47.

Non-work injury rates could rise by 67c, to $2.17 per $100.

But Federated Farmers says levy increases for farmers will be a lot higher than the average rate - at a time when they're cutting their own spending.

It says the steep increases are a result of ACC mis-management.
