Growers benefits from seasonal employment scheme

Growers using the Government's recognised seasonal employer scheme (RSE) say it's played a part in allowing them to expand their operations.

The RSE scheme which has been running for about six years allows migrant workers, mainly from the Pacific Islands to come here for seasonal work, especially fruit and vege harvesting.

A survey of growers using the scheme shows they're getting increasing value out of it.

They say they're getting a more productive and stable workforce.

And Horticulture New Zealand's chief executive Peter Silcock says that's having a spin-off for the local workforce as well.
