The tomato industry is alerting shoppers about imports of irradiated Australian tomatoes.
A Tomatoes New Zealand spokesperson said food retailers and the hospitality sector were legally required to label or identify imported tomatoes treated with radiation.
However, large volumes of unlabelled, irradiated Australian tomatoes were turning up in shops and vegetable markets.
The spokesperson said shoppers should take the trouble to check what they were buying.
