A Central Otago pinot noir has been judged the champion wine at this year's Romeo Bragato Wine Awards.

John Olssen produced the winning wine, a 2007 Olssens Jackson Barry Pinot Noir, which was also awarded the trophy for the champion pinot noir.

The Reserve Champion Wine award went to Alan Johnson of Palliser Vineyard in Martinborough for his Palliser Estate Chardonnay 2007.

The 14 champion awards and nine trophies were spread across the wine growing regions of Hawkes Bay, Nelson, Marlborough, Martinborough and Central Otago.
