The England cricketers have beaten the West Indies by five wickets at Lord's in the opening match of their three-test series.

England started their chase for 191 badly when they lost two wickets just before stumps on the fourth day, and they were a shaky 57 for four on the final day before a stand of 132 between Alastair Cooke and Ian Bell carried them to a comfortable victory.

Stuart Broad's 11 wickets won him the man of the match award, even though the world's best batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul spent 10 hours at the crease for innings of 87 not out and 91.

The second Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham starts on Friday night.
