Broncos withdraw offer to Hunt

The Brisbane Broncos NRL club is planning for life without Karmichael Hunt after they withdrew a new contract offer to the star full-back.

Hunt comes off contract at the end of the current season and has been in negotiations with the Broncos over a new deal.

The Broncos stuck by their round one deadline for the offer, believed to more than a million dollars over three years, when Hunt failed to respond at the weekend.

Brisbane announced last night the two parties had been unable to agree to terms, and that their current offer had been taken off the table.

Hunt is believed to be weighing up a lucrative offer to play rugby union in Japan, but the Broncos sent the strong message they would not be drawn into a bidding war for the 22-year-old.

Hunt has played all his senior football with Brisbane, racking up 104 NRL matches as well as seven Origin matches for Queensland and 11 Test matches.
