Flanker George Whitelock has been named as Canterbury's captain for this season's Air New Zealand Cup provincial rugby competition.
The 23-year-old recently played his first Test for the All Blacks when he came on as a replacement against Italy in Christchurch.
Whitelock has played 14 games for Canterbury and 11 Super 14 matches for the Crusaders.
