White quits Brumbies after losing out on Wallabies job

Missing out on replacing Robbie Deans as coach of the Wallabies is the primary reason behind South African Jake White's decision to resign as coach of the ACT Brumbies, says the Super rugby franchise's chief exectuive.

White came to Canberra in 2011, steering the team to a Super Rugby final just two months ago.

But Brumbies CEO Andrew Fagan says White was very disappointed to miss out on the Australia job, which went to former Wallaby Ewen McKenzie.

Fagan says while surprised White asked for a release from the last two years of his contract and they had little choice but to let him go as they can't kidnap him and force him to coach.

Fagan has all but confirmed World Cup-winning Wallaby Stephen Larkham or Laurie Fisher will replace White.

Larkham is the team's current attack coach, while Fisher, who was head coach from 2005-08, has handled the forwards.
