World Junior Champion Gabrielle Fa'amausili of Auckland fended off 2-time Olympians Hayley Palmer and Lauren Boyle to win the 50 freestyle title at the National Short Course Championships in Wellington.

The 13 year old broke the national age group record twice on her way to the title and says it's such a privilege to race people like Boyle and Palmer.

In other finals, Dunedin's Kurt Crosland stepped up for his second win of the championships in the men's 200 medley.

Eighteen year old Caroline Baddock of North Shore broke the national age group record to win the women's 200 backstroke, she also won the 100 medley.

Olympian Daniel Bell of Taranaki was back in winning form in the men's 50 butterfly, in his first significant competition after time away from the sport.

Meanwhile the remarkable Paralympian Sophie Pascoe continued her outstanding form when she set another world record time in the 100 medley.
