Arsenal stay top, United come from behind

11:34 am on 27 October 2013

Manchester United belatedly rediscovered their famous fighting spirit by roaring back from behind to beat Stoke City 3-2 at Old Trafford and re-energise their English Premier League title defence.

David Moyes's side trailed 2-1 at half-time and looked on course for a third successive home game without victory in the league before goals from Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez secured a much-needed win.

United remain eight points behind Arsenal, who won 2-0 at Crystal Palace to consolidate their position at the head of the table, but they closed to within three points of the top four.

With Chelsea playing Manchester City tomorrow, Liverpool took advantage to climb above them into second place thanks to a hat-trick by Luis Suarez in a 4-1 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Arsenal survived the dismissal of goalscorer Mikel Arteta to beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park and preserve their status at the top of the standings.

In other matches Everton beat Aston Villa 2-0, Southampton beat Fulham 2-0 and Norwich and Cardiff drew nil-all.
