Auckland cyclist James Oram has won the Tour of Southland.

Brenton Jones won the final 87-kilometre stage from Winton to Invercargill in a fast sprint finish as Oram stayed out of trouble, the under-23 rider finishing in the peloton to win by 28 seconds.

Taylor Gunman, who closed the gap with second place on the day's earlier stage, the almost 13-kilometre individual time trial around Winton, was second overall. Gunman's HGW team-mate and national champion Joseph Cooper won the trial.

Oram finished third on that stage - he also claims the overall under-23 title.
