Champions Manchester United produced their best performance of the season to beat English Premier League leaders Arsenal 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Robin van Persie tormented his former team-mates with a headed goal from a corner midway through the first half.
The result left Arsenal on 25 points from 11 matches, two clear of Liverpool, with United moving up to fifth on 20 ahead of local rivals Manchester City, who were beaten 1-0 at Sunderland and drop to eighth on 19 points.
It was Arsenal's first away defeat since March after a run of 15 games unbeaten in all compeitions and thrust United right back into the title race after a faltering start to the campaign.
Newcastle United won 1-0 at Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke and Swansea drew 3-3.
