Wallabies coach scoffs at "overkill" accusations

Australian rugby coach Ewen McKenzie has scoffed at suggestions of overkill following his decision to sensationally stand down six players for late night drinking on their end-of-season northern tour.

Fifteen of the Wallabies squad of 32 have been disciplined, six of them copping one game suspensions for being out in the early hours of last Wednesday morning, ahead of last weekend's test against Ireland in Dublin.

There were no complaints or police involvement, but McKenzie said he could not overlook breaks in team protocols as he looks to improve team culture and turn his rebuilding side into 2015 World Cup champions.

Australia produced their best performance of a forgettable year to beat Ireland 32-15.
