The Southern Steel netballers have ended their trans-Tasman championship season with a huge upset, beating the top of the table Melbourne Vixens 65-64 in a thrilling final round robin game in Invercargill.
The Steel led 29-28 at half-time and by five points at three-quarter time but it came down to the winning shot in the final seconds from the hosts' Jamaican import Jhaniele Fowler-Reid.
The Steel can't make the playoffs while the Vixens could have sealed top seeding for the finals with a win.
