Pro effort from NZ sprint team

The New Zealand sprint team produced a truly professional effort to win New Zealand's first gold medal of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand, who are world champions, went into the event as heavy favourites and qualified fastest.

In the final Ethan Mitchell, Eddie Dawkins, and Sam Webster overcame some pre-race gamesmanship from their English opponents to record a Commonwealth Games record time in their win.

England false started, stopping the countdown with eight seconds to go - but the New Zealanders had practised that in training and dealt with it.

The New Zealand sprint coach Anthony Peden says they came prepared and he couldn't have asked for more.

Earlier the men's pursuit team picked up New Zealand's first medal of the Games, a bronze.
