Gear says Joseph main reason behind move south

The departing Hurricanes winger Hosea Gear says the chance to work under Highlanders coach Jamie Joseph was the major factor behind his move to the southern Super Rugby franchise.

The dropped All Blacks winger has signed a one-year deal with the Highlanders for next season.

Gear worked under Joseph for several provincial seasons with Wellington and the 27-year-old has always been a fan of his old school style.

While conceding the dumping of fellow All Blacks Andrew Hore and Ma'a Nonu by Hurricanes coach and the resulting player exodus had certainly influenced his decision, Gear says if Joseph hadn't been with the Highlanders he wouldn't have moved.

Gear says he hasn't decided which province he'll play for in next year's ITM Cup and says he won't make a decision until after the Super Rugby season.
