1:35 pm on 15 November 2012

An iwi elder is under observation at Wellington hospital after collapsing in Parliament's public gallery.

Grant Hawke of Ngati Whatua Orakei fainted during the third reading of the iwi's Waitangi Treaty settlement bill before Parliament.

He was helped out of the public gallery by other iwi members and taken to hospital.

Several MPs passed on their thoughts and well-wishes to Mr Hawke in their speeches during the final reading of the $18 million settlement, which has now been passed by Parliament.
