Ngai Tahu finalise environmental plan

8:01 pm on 1 March 2013

South Island iwi Ngai Tahu has finalised a tribal management plan to help councils to make environmental decisions.

Six Ngai Tahu trust boards, or runanga, helped to create the Mahaanui Iwi Management Plan.

It provides information about areas from the Hurunui River in the north through Christchurch and Banks Peninsula south to the Hakatere/Ashburton River.

Environment Canterbury and the Christchurch City Council have been major supporters.

The plan will provide information about Ngai Tahu including the tribe's values, aspirations and cultural interests.
