Lower North Island tribe Ngati Wehi Wehi has gifted a tukutuku panel to the Horowhenua District Council to solidify its partnership.

The iwi signed a memorandum of partnership with the council in November last year to improve communication and work more proactively together.

Marae committee chairman Richard Orzecki says not everyone could make the occasion, so a ceremony was held on Wednesday to reinforce what the partnership means.

He says there are opportunities for the council to use marae facilities, and to get cultural advice from iwi as well as work together on infrastructure projects.

The tribe received a framed copy of the memorandum, and gifted a Tukutuku panel to go up in the council building.
