More young Maori will be able to start careers in the agricultural sector thanks to a joint bank-Maori trust scholarship.
The Poutama Trust and ASB bank will provide four $10,000 scholarships for industry training.
ASB Maori banking services national manager Anthony Ririnui estimated land-based assets managed and owned by Maori to be worth about $6 billion.
The scholarships, which would cover fees and accommodation, would take away some of the financial barriers young Maori faced when considering training for a career, Mr Ririnui said.
Applications for the scholarships at the Wairarapa-based Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre open on 1 October.
