The Maori designer who gifted a contemporary korowai and pounamu to the songstress, Beyonce, says she felt a huge sense of responsibility from Te Ao Maori.

Kiri Nathan presented the hand-made taonga to the international-superstar at the closing of her final concert in Auckland at the weekend.

She says the korowai was made of 800 peacock feathers and her husband Jason, created the pounamu items, including an adze (toki) for Beyonce's daughter.

Mrs Nathan says she presented the singer with the taonga after a haka performed backstage, and described the importance of the pieces.

She says the singer was overwhelmed with the haka and taonga and embraced Mrs Nathan.
