Te Arawa advisory body set to change - mayor

The new mayor of Rotorua, Steve Chadwick, says that she suspects the council's Maori advisory body, Te Arawa Standing Committee, will replaced by a more influential model.

The committee, which is currently under review, was set up in 1993, and aided council by providing recommendations on Maori matters.

A committee election was due to be held earlier this year, but instead a review in to its operation and purpose was started - with an intention of improving its functions.

Steve Chadwick says she wants to leave the future of the body for Te Arawa tribes to determine.

But she believes the current structure won't exist in the future.
