Wet weather and thunderstorms are being forecast for much of the North Island this afternoon.
MetService has issued a severe weather warning for Taihape, Whanganui, Manawatu, Kapiti, Horowhenua and Wellington with predictions of thunderstorms and hail.
It said that could lead to surface flooding, overflowing streams and rivers, and land slips.
And heavy rain is also expected in Bay of Plenty and Gisborne this afternoon.
The rain is being forecast to reach Waikato and South Auckland tomorrow morning.
