Two teens arrested after Sydney fires

9:44 am on 11 January 2013

Two teenagers have been arrested after a string of small fires were lit in bushland in southwest Sydney.

Police were alerted to a grass fire at the intersection of Canterbury Road and Victoria Street, Macquarie Fields, about 10.40pm (AEDT) on Thursday.

A number of other fires were spotted the front fences of houses further up the road, bringing the number of blazes to nine.

AAP reports the fires were extinguished and two boys were arrested. Other youths also fled from the scene.

The boys have been charged with breaching their bail and are to appear at Campbelltown Children's Court on Friday.

Firefighters are gearing up for another day of high fire danger on Friday, with fears that bushfires burning across the state could "go gangbusters" as more scorching weather bears down on NSW.
