Three women who vanished many years ago in the American state of Ohio have been found alive.

Amanda Berry, who was 16, disappeared in 2003, while Gina DeJesus went missing at the aged of 14 a year later. Michele Knight vanished in 2002 when she was 20.

Police say they were all found in a house in the city of Cleveland and are now in hospital, where officials say they are in a "fair condition".

They have arrested three brothers aged in their 50s.

A BBC correspondent says it was assumed that the girls were dead, and the mother of one saying she believed her daughter had been sold into slavery.

At least one of the women is reported to have a baby.
