The head of the commercial arm of China's soccer association has been detained by police as part of a widening investigation into match fixing, state media.

Xinhua news agency said on Thursday that China Football Industrial Development Corp general manager Shao Wenzhong had been in police custody for six days.

The government is trying to root out match-fixing and corruption in the sport.

Twenty officials have been arrested this year, including the head of the national football association.
