Repeat prison break in Greece

8:40 am on 23 February 2009

Two of Greece's most wanted men have escaped by helicopter from the highest-security prison in Athens - for the second time in three years.

Vassilis Paleokostas, 42, and Alket Rizai, of Albania, were due to go on trial soon for their previous escape in 2006.

They escaped from Korydallos prison after a helicopter landed on the roof and a rope ladder was thrown to them on Sunday afternoon.

The aircraft was reportedly later found abandoned by a main highway.

Three years ago both men managed to escape when a hijacked helicopter landed in Korydallos' central yard at exercise time.

Guards said they thought it was a visit by prison inspectors.

Paleokostas was recaptured in August 2008.
