Prince William arrives on Falklands posting

4:14 pm on 3 February 2012

The second in line to the British throne, Prince William, has arrived in the Falkland Islands for a six-week deployment with the Royal Air Force.

Prince William, whose younger brother Prince Harry served in Afghanistan in 2008, is on a tour of duty as an RAF search and rescue pilot.

His posting comes amid reignited controversy regarding the sovereignty of the islands, known to Argentinians as the Malvinas, the BBC reports.

The Royal Navy is to send one of its latest warships, the Type 45 destroyer HMS Dauntless, to the region on her maiden mission.
