The Mexican army has seized 15 tonnes of methamphetamines in the western state of Jalisco.

The cache was discovered at a ranch in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, south of the state capital, Guadalajara, after a tip-off.

General Gilberto Hernandez Andreu said the ranch was used as a lab to manufacture the drug.

Production equipment was also seized, but no arrests were made.

The BBC reports production of methamphetamine is on the rise in Mexico, with the Sinaloa cartel smuggling huge amounts into the United States.
