Dead dog's diamond pet collar stolen

12:07 pm on 17 February 2012

Police in France are investigating the theft of a diamond-studded collar from a poodle buried in a pet cemetery in Paris.

Several years ago, Tipsy was interred with jewellery in 2003 worth more than 9000 euros around his neck.

The story of a small fortune under the dog's marble tombstone has long been dismissed as an urban myth.

But the BBC reports it's now been revealed the treasure was real and was taken when the tomb was desecrated last week.

AFP reports the graveyard's most famous tenant is Hollywood canine star Rin Tin Tin.
