Though the practice of singing the Lamentations during the Easter Triduum (Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday) was common, Thomas Tallis’ settings were thought to have been composed for domestic use rather than for singing in a liturgical context.

The texts are from the Maundy Thursday liturgy. Lamentations I and II are two distinct works composed in different modes, but here they are presented together as one unit.

Recorded 29 August 2019 in Wellington Cathedral of St. Paul
