A work for viola and pre-recorded electronics, is an exploration of the meanings that the word 'hā' has in te reo Māori: first of all it’s a verb, to breathe or to taste, then it has a number of noun meanings: breath, essence, taste. It can mean sound, or tone of voice or it can refer to tone or timbre in music. Or to intonation ... the rise and fall or the feeling of someone’s voice.
