Midwives and physiotherapists have joined general practitioners and specialists who have been on strike since the middle of last week.

At Noumea's three private hospitals, the strike was launched over concern that reimbursements had not been adjusted for years, which they say puts their viability at risk.

The dispute comes amid concern over the financial state of the public health care system because of its growing deficit.

The strike has increased pressure on the city's public hospital.
