Fiji's main opposition party has been plunged further into crisis following the resignation of its former leader in parliament.

On Monday Sitiveni Rabuka announced his resignation in the House while delivering his response to the President's address.

Last month, Mr Rabuka lost the contest for the leadership of the Social Democratic Liberal Party to Nadroga MP Viliame Gavoka.

This came after months of tensions within the party which started in April and that have since created a split in the party.

And as Christine Rovoi reports while, Mr Rabuka's announcement has come as a shock to some others say the writing's been on the wall for sometime.
