There has been an outpouring of support from communities in Fiji to help families in Tonga impacted by the January 15 volcanic eruption and tsunami.

A three-day donation drive in Suva run by the Tongan community in Fiji has raised $70,000 to cover the cost of two shipping containers which will be sent to Tonga with essential food and emergency supplies.

The initiative included the collection of buckets of biscuits and essential goods to send to Tonga, as the island nation rebuilds from the aftermath of the natural disaster in which three people lost their lives.

Tongan community leader Sina Kami says the response to their call for help at the 'Api Tonga Community Hall in Suva, has been "amazing".
