A decision by King Tupou VI (sixth) earlier this month to withdraw his confidence in the ministerial portfolios of Tonga's prime minister and foreign minister has raised questions about the efficiency of Tonga's political system and the extent of the Monarchy's power.

Prime Minister Hu'akavameiliku has responded by announcing his confidence in retaining the portfolios, and talks are reportedly taking place between the two parties to resolve the dispute.
