Simon Morris wraps up the summer holiday season.  Even during a pandemic there are still blockbusters, Oscar-hopefuls – even if many are showing on Netflix this year – and a continuing good run of New Zealand and Australian films.

 

Roseanne Liang is best known for serious New Zealand independent films.  But who knew she had a popcorn movie like Shadow in the cloud in her?  Stars Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick Ass, Let me in).

 

Australian film High ground is equal parts colonial history lesson and outback western.  Stars Simon Baker and Jack Thompson.

 

And remember those yuppie “risk-takers” of the 1980s?  The nest features Jude Law as the ultimate example of “fake it till you make it”.   Written and directed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene).
