Food companies to blame for plastic problems - waste expert

From Checkpoint, 5:56 pm on 29 January 2020

How worried should New Zealanders be about our low rubbish recycling rates? An Auckland waste consultant says we're being unfairly blamed for the poor plastic habits of food companies and shouldn't feel guilty when they're left with no choice.

Sandra Murray says people need a degree to understand the recycling system - and what household waste goes where. Sandra lives with her two teenage children and her partner.

Checkpoint cameraman Simon Rogers and reporter Nita Blake-Persen joined her for the filthy task of sifting through their trash.
