Ports of Auckland bosses face council as delays continue

From Checkpoint, 5:51 pm on 18 May 2021

Ports of Auckland bosses have fronted up to frustrated Auckland councillors this afternoon, as freight and logistics delays continue to affect businesses across the country.

Ports chief executive Tony Gibson presented their latest quarterly report to Auckland Council - the Port's sole shareholder - and Mayor Phil Goff wasted no time in demanding answers.

Speed isn't the only concern for the Ports - a damning health and safety report was released earlier this year, and investigations into a death and injuries at the Port remain unresolved.

The Maritime Union says they've struggled to get Ports bosses to return their emails at times.

But ports chair Bill Osborne told councillors they need more trust.
