Some Auckland schools are battling virtual truancy and more than 50 percent of students dropping off the radar as they head back into online classes on Monday.

Jean Batten School in Māngere East has around 400 primary students. The Principal Nardi Leonard talks to Lisa Owen.

She said that on a good day they would get 'mid to low-40' percent of their students engaging online.

She said many of their students are having to rely on mobile data rather than a home internet connection to get online.
