Safety should come at a reasonable cost, not any cost, according to Auckland councillor Maurice Williamson.

He's calling out Auckland Transport over its spending on new pedestrian crossings, with walk now signals as part of its ongoing safety programme.

The agency's spending more than $12.5 million on 27 crossings around the city; that works out at about $460,000 a pop.
