Five new mataitai reserves have been established, enabling Maori in those areas to exercise their customary rights to gather food from the waterways; Some tracks are to close in the Hunua Ranges - south east of Auckland - to protect kauri from a deadly fungus-like disease; After years of planning, two waka have set sail for Rapanui, or Easter Island, using traditional Maori methods of navigation to get there.
