A mob of sheep on Massey University's Riverside Farm isn't being rounded up for shearing this year, in fact it's hoped in the future, the sheep won't need to be shorn at all.

They're part of a multiyear flock study... scientists are monitoring the sheep as they are crossbred from wooly Romneys - to 100 percent self-shedding Wiltshires.

Massey University's Steve Morris, says the research aims to give farmers a better idea of the costs and benefits of moving out of the wool business.
