Closure of Fonterra's Kapiti site an economic boost for Eltham

South Taranaki's mayor is welcoming the economic boost 35 new jobs at Fonterra's Eltham site will provide - but feels for those affected by the closure of their Kapiti site. Yesterday, the dairy giant announced a 605 million dollar loss and the closure of their Paraparaumu speciality cheese factory, where 70 people are set to lose jobs. It was a day of mixed emotions for South Taranaki Mayor Ross Dunlop, who's also dairy farmer and Fonterra shareholder. Before giving his take on the losses, he began by telling Rowan Quinn the difference the additional jobs will make to his region.
