Govt slammed for banning Chinese students from universities

Back home, the government's being slammed for ruling out a travel ban exemption for Chinese students due to start study at New Zealand universities. The Univeristy of Auckland last week announced a hiring ban due to a 30 million dollar loss because around 2000 Chinese students couldn't fly to New Zealand after our borders were closed to direct flights from China due to Covid-19 corona virus fears. Professor Grant Guilford is the Vice Chancellor Victoria University Wellington and Chair of Universities New Zealand and told reporter Sarah Robson this decision could result in redundancies.
