The town of Wairoa in the northern Hawkes Bay area is bracing itself for a Covid-19 outbreak which modelling predicts could kill 14 people. The national death toll for the entire pandemic sits at 65. Wairoa health officials estimate that 14 unvaccinated people could die in a major outbreak and around 140 could become very ill. Concerns were raised after a recent tangi was attended by many people. Two of them were from out of town and didn't realise they had Covid. Wairoa District Mayor Craig Little explains what is being done to prepare.
